Fifth Félix Benjamín Caignet Contest

The head office of Cuba’s Writers and Artists League (UNEAC is the Spanish acronym) in Santiago de Cuba have summoned the 5th Félix Benjamín Caignet movies, radio and television contest, since this man is labeled father of soap opera because of his The Right to Be Born.

The competition will be open through October and is dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry (ICAIC is the Spanish acronym) and Santiago-born actress Adela Legrá, one of the emblematic Lucías of Cuban movies.

This call aims at defending local identity by means of social networks and Internet since it will feature a theoretical space to learn the latest trends and feel the influence of information and communication technologies in terms of audiovisual productions.

The Félix Benjamín Caignet contest is a new opportunity for producers of news programs, musical, dramatized and others on the radio and television, as well as creator of the seventh art.

The Excelencias Group gives the rules of the contest.

1.    It targets Cuban Movie, Radio and Television creators, whether they are members of UNEAC or not, who shall participate with works that have been broadcasted between Sep. 1, 2013 and Aug. 30, 2014.

2.    The creators can present one (1) work per genre.

3.    The works shall be sent with their RESPECTIVE SCRIPTS, otherwise the work will be declared null.

4.    The data to be provided includes genre to compete, as well as the contestant’s address, ID number and telephone.

5.    The executive of the Audiovisual and Radio Association will tap the jury to assess the competing works.

6.    Each genre will take one Award and as many Mentions as necessary. The jury’s decisions are not to be appealed.

7.    Two ´´Félix  B. Caignet´´ awards are going to be given to the finest works: Radio and Television.

8.    This call will be open through September 25, 2014.

9.    An admission jury will check out the fulfillment of the requirements included on the Contest’s Rules.

The participants shall send the works with their official names, as well as their ID numbers, address and telephone number to:

The works will be declared null is this requirement is not fulfilled.

The TV shows shall be sent in DVD format and CD in the case of Radio, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Those who are interested in presenting their works in the theoretical event can contact the Organizing Committee:
