Ferry Resumes Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic Service

The ship Caribbean Fantasy, which plies the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic route, will resume operations tomorrow Friday, three months after a mechanical failure halted passenger service, EFE reports.

The company America Cruise Ferries on Thursday said that during these months spent US$5.0 million in repairs and another million on remodeling, including paint and the refurbishment.

The company halted passenger service on April 14 on issues with one of its two engines, although federal authorities allowed it to continue hauling freight.

The ship will provide three weekly crossings from San Juan’s Puerto Panamericano and three returns from Santo Domingo.

In addition to roll-on-roll-off freight, the Caribbean Fantasy transports nearly 1000,000 passengers annually, around 60% of which are Dominicans.
