Falkland Islands Tourist Board Names Paul Trowell General Manager

Paul Trowell has been appointed the new general manager of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board effective April 5. Mr. Trowell will replace Jake Downing who, after two and a half years in the role, is relocating to a new position in Alice Springs, Australia.

Mr. Trowell will be moving to the Falklands with his wife and son from New Zealand, where he has been running his own tourism marketing company for the past six years. Earlier this month, Mr. Trowell attended the Cruise Shipping Miami (CSM) convention.

The Falkland Islands Tourist Board conducts ongoing visitor research surveys with 2008-09 results showing a large proportion saying they would consider returning to the Falklands and 98 percent rating their cruise experience as good to excellent.

In addition, half of all visitors stated that they would be interested in returning for a land-based holiday. The cruise sector currently represents 5 percent of the Falkland Islands’ GDP and contributes more than $4 million a year into the local economy.
