EUROAL Gets Institute of Tourism Sustainability Award

The Institute of Tourism Sustainability, ISTur, delivered on Tuesday its “True commitment to sustainability” awards during the opening ceremony of the 33rd Graduation of Master’s Degree in Hotel Management and Administration at the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE), Madrid’s Technical University.

One of the prizewinners is EUROAL, the International Hall of Tourism, Art and Culture of Latin America and Europe, which has been given an honorable diploma. The president of its organizing committee, Luis Callejon, attended the ceremony to pick up the award.

EUROAL receives the mention for representing “a cultural-meeting and market-exchange platform.”
 
The academic act was headed by the Rector of Madrid’s Technical University (UPM), Carlos Conde Lazaro, and counted on the presence of vice-rector of Academic Planning and Doctorate, Emilio Minguez Torres; director of ICE, Rosa Maria Gonzalez Tirados; Tourism Managing Director of Madrid Community, Joaquin Castillo Dolgaray, and the president of ISTur, Jesus Felipe Gallego.
 
The awards were also handed to El Salvador’s minister of Tourism, Jose Napoleon Duarte Duran; Angola’s State Secretary of Tourism and Catering Business, Paulino Domingos; Mexico’s National Council for Tourism Quality; Malaga’s Gastronomic Academy, the oldest one in Spain; Agrotravel Responsible Tourism, a specialized agency based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, which promotes responsible and sustainable tourism, and Breeam España, a company that assess and certifies sustainable construction.

They were joined by Mexico’s National Council for Tourism Teaching Quality (CONAET), a non-governmental and non-profitable association, whose activities are aimed at contributing to the quality of teaching in Mexico’s travel industry; Alejandro Gonzalez Pozo, managing director of Hesperia Madrid Hotel, for his commitment to the hospitality; Jose Guillermo Rodriguez, mayor of Mayagüez city, Puerto Rico, for his contribution to the community and boost to the development of Latin American green municipalities, and Luis Felipe Nuño Ramirez, Promotion director of Guadalajara’s Office of Visitors and Conventions (Mexico) and president of the Mexican Association of Destination Marketing.

Likewise, there were awards for Rodolfo R. Casparius, emeritus director of tourism and hotel management at the University of Houston, U.S.; Diversey España Services, a Barcelona-based company, related to hygiene and cleaning solutions with green guidelines; Rosa Maria Gonzalez Tirados, director of ICE at Madrid’s Technical University; Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), linked to the development of constructions and edifications in national and international markets with sustainable bases, and Madrid’s Down Syndrome Foundation for its commitment to Down Syndrome patients and other intellectual handicaps; Hospederias de Extremadura, related to the tourism sector in Caceres and Badajoz, and Inca Real Hotel, an example of a small hotel in Costa Rica that encourages sustainable development.

Among the prizewinning group we can also mention Jemi, S.A., a Barcelona-based company in charge of producing hotel items; NH Hoteles, Spain’s second hotel chain, committed to the sustainable development; Costa Rica’s National Network of Small Hotels, for their effort in terms of sustainable development; RIU Hotels & Resorts, Spain’s third hotel chain, committed to sustainable development, and Sheraton Madrid Mirasierra Hotel&SPA, for its dedication to the people.
