El Cid La Ceiba Opens Maya-Influenced Spa
El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel will open the Cocai Spa & Wellness Center on June 10. The full-service Cocai Spa takes its name from the ancient Maya word for “firefly.”
The spa´s Maya-inspired Temazcal treatment purifies with steam rising from a small, round, adobe-brick chamber that lights up like a firefly. Inside the chamber are red-hot volcanic stones.
Sitting on a bed of natural herbs, the stones produce a sauna, soothingly scented for rest and rejuvenation. Cocai will offer massages, body scrubs, body wraps and facials that reflect the Maya culture.
Other Cocai treatments will include warm-stone massages and foot massages focusing on reflex points to induce an overall sense of wellbeing.
Near the spa, the El Cid La Ceiba´s Adults-Only Silent Area will repeat the rest and rejuvenation themes in an oceanfront day lounge with massage tents and cabins, Jacuzzi and sun deck surrounded by graceful palms.
The open-air lounge will offer seating on giant, plush mattresses, cushion and lounge chairs. The popular beachfront hotel was fully remodeled following Hurricane Wilma last fall.
