Dutch St. Maarten Introduces New Tourism Commissioner

Dutch St. Maarten introduced its new tourism commissioner to the U.S. media at a restaurant in Manhattan yesterday. Frans George Richardson, the commissioner of tourism & economic Affairs, Aviation and Sports for St. Maarten had served for three years as a senator representing St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles Parliament before his current post.

In comments to the media, Richardson spoke of doing more in the way of joint marketing with such nearby islands as Anguilla, St. Eustatius and St. Barths as well as French St. Marten. He also spoke of unveiling a revitalized website for the island’s tourism in September.

He also that can accommodate Genesis class cruise ships will be completed before long. He also noted that the Tourist Bureau was exploring the possibility of launching a specialist agent course. According to Richardson, Atlantis Casinos Group will build a hotel in St. Maarten and a pier.
