DR’s Punta Espada Golf Club to Host Cap Cana Championship

Throughout his long professional career, golfer Keith Fergus has valued one thing over all others -- winning.

The Texan has achieved that goal three times on the PGA Tour and three times on the Champions Tour, including twice last year. When he returns to the fairways of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada Golf Club for the 2010 Cap Cana Championship, March 22 to 28, Fergus has one thing in mind -- repeating his title of 2009.

The 55-year-old from Sugar Land, Texas, thinks that’s a possibility. “I’m playing well, my game is as good as it has ever been, and my attitude is good,” Fergus said. Fergus will be among 78 Champions Tour players making a third visit to the resort and his return will rekindle memories of his one-shot victory over Andy Bean and Mark O’Meara.

Tournament Director Efren Garcia-Estrada believes the 2010 event will be the best yet. “The Cap Cana Championship promises to be another great success and will be the biggest sporting and social event of the year in the Dominican Republic,” he said. “We had two great champions, Mark Wiebe and Keith Fergus, and expect another dramatic finish with quality players such as 2009 Charles Schwab Cup winner and player of the year Bernhard Langer, John Cook, Nick Price, Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin, Hal Sutton, Tom Kite and crowd favorite Eduardo Romero already committed to the tournament.”
