Dominican Republic Hotels Will Soon Reach Full Capacity, Says Association Official

Hotel occupancy in the Dominican Republic’s tourist regions, including Bavaro, Bayahibe, La Romana, Macao and Punta Cana, is currently at 80 percent and is expected to “fill completely” by next week, said Arturo Villanueva, executive vice president of the affirmed National Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores).

The country’s eastern tourist areas, which include Punta Cana, lead in hotel occupancy at 90 percent while other resort area range between 70 and 75 percent occupied, Villanueva said in interviews with regional media.

Based on confirmed reservations, hotels in each of the tourist regions are expected to be at 100 percent occupancy next week, he added. Overall, 2011 tourist area hotel occupancy will finish at 5 percent above 2010 totals, according to Villanueva.
