Diego Cordovez Elected as Chairman of the WTO Ethics Committee

The newly-founded Ethics Committee of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) held its first working session last March 3 in Italy’s Rome and elected Diego Cordovez as chairman.

The WTO set up this blue-ribbon panel as an independent body to help implement and monitor compliance with the Global Tourism Ethics Code passed in 1999.

Mr. Cordovez served as a UN diplomat in the economic field for a quarter of a century before being appointed to some concrete political tasks. He started working for the United Nations as UNCTAD secretary-general. Later on, he served a stint as Secretariat Director for the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the Council’s Secretariat.
