Descemer Bueno in Santiago de Cuba

The first visit of popular singer and songwriter Descemer Bueno to Santiago de Cuba has hit the news, as he is going to give concerts at Heredia Theater today and tomorrow, 8:30 pm.

Casa del Caribe was the place chosen for the singer to give a press conference and the media representatives received details on the performance and his new projects.

Orlando Vergés Martínez, director of Casa del Caribe, welcomed the artist and said to be pleased to open the doors for him in an institution that fosters and cultivates the traditional popular culture of both the country and the Caribbean.

Singer Odilia Solo Soyé (Matiti), a descendant of Haitians, performed a creole prayer to Papá Legbá (Ellegua) for the path of the versatile composer’s music to be forever open; Descemer was excited and praised Matiti’s great voice, who is a member of the group from Thompson community.

During the press conference, Descemer thanked the provincial authorities, specifically the director of Heredia Theater, Leonel Galán, for giving him the opportunity to have a good time with the people of Santiago, who is going to enjoy famous songs and an unpublished one:
Camarera.

Descemer told the press that he recently wrote, along with Colombian Juanes, a song entitled La maleta talked about his latest performances in Mexico, Spain, Colombia and New York. He announced the visit of Jamaican rapper Sean Paul in November and pointed out that he is a lucky man because his songs have been sung by acclaimed international artists and he has been on stage with most of them.

His career began some years ago and the bolero genre played an important role. “There’s a world of charm in bolero and my mother showed it to me”, Descemer said; nevertheless, he presently composes fusion music in an effort to put Cuban artists in the international arena.

Before the end of the meeting, Ifá Priest Juan Martén Portuondo and Descemer Bueno saluted each other and the artist was given an amulet to bring good luck. On the other hand, Orlando Vergés invited him to attend the 35th uninterrupted edition of the Caribbean Festival, and gave him some books and a scarf that represents the Cimarron culture of Suriname.  

The press conference came to an end with group La Botija, which surprised the artist with Bailando. Descemer joined them and showed his humble character.

In an exclusive for the Excelencias Group, he confessed to be happy for being in such an emblematic place that defends popular culture, and he accepted the invitation to participate in upcoming editions of the Fire Fiesta (Fiesta del Fuego).
