Delta Plans Major Expansion South of the Border this Spring

Delta Air Lines announced the largest expansion in Mexico in the airline´s history after receiving U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) approval for 12 new nonstop routes between the U.S. and Mexico by June, including the airline´s first flights into Merida.

The new routes are awaiting Mexican government approval. If approved, the routes will include legs from Atlanta to Merida, Acapulco and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo beginning April 12, as well as flights from Cincinnati to Los Cabos and Cancun starting on June 1.

The company will also provide routes from Los Angeles to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Cancun, from New York City to Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Cozumel, and from Salt Lake City to Mazatlan, somewhere between March and April.

In addition, Delta said it is seeking DOT approval for three additional routes by summer: New York (Kennedy) to Cancun, and Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.
