Delta Air Lines Set to End New York-Guyana Flights

Delta Air Lines will end its regular service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana in May. Delta officials cited declining route profitability as behind its decision to discontinue the service, said Robeson Benn, the country’s minister of public works. In an article on the Caribbean News Now website, Benn added that two “low-cost” carriers, RedJet and EZjet, also recently ended their flights to the Caribbean nation.

Robeson claimed Delta “was experiencing passenger growth” in Guyana despite its decision to cancel its flights, but he also added that “We have noted claims by Delta elsewhere of higher fuel cost and of a Guyana passenger profile which is biased towards the low end of the market in respect of fares.”
