Curacao Stay-Over Visitor Arrivals Generated $401.4 Million in 2013
According to the ‘Turistika Model’, CTB research department together with MEO calculated that during the year 2013 the tourism sector generated in total 401.4 million US dollars.
The year 2012 generated a total of 376.7 million US dollars. European stay-over visitors, who visited Curacao in greatest numbers during the year 2013, spent a total 174.6 million US dollars, about 43 percent of the total.
They were followed by the South Americans who spent 113.9 million US dollars and the North Americans who spent 74.3 million US dollars. The Caribbean visitors spent a total of 25.6 million US dollars in 2013.
All together 440,714 stay-over visitors were welcomed during the year 2013. This is a 5 percent increase in visitor arrivals compared to 2012. In 2012 Curacao welcomed 420,868 stay-over visitors. The European region welcomed 175,607 visitors in 2013 compared to 175,161 in 2012 recording a flat growth (0 percent). The South American region increased by 10 percent.
There were 135,773 in 2013 compared to the 123.490 visitors registered in 2012. The North American region decreased by 1 percent during 2013. A total of 71,228 visitors from this region are registered. The Caribbean region decreased by 3 percent, during the year 2013 we welcomed 38,936 visitors from our neighbor Islands.
The share of the top 5 markets to Curacao was in 2013 The Netherlands (30.0 percent), Venezuela (20.9 percent), United States of America (14.0 percent), Aruba (4.5 percent) and Germany (4.0 percent). In absolute figures the top 5 markets registered 131,995, 92,256, 61,627, 20,041 and 17,604 stay-over visitors in 2013.
The overall nights spent on the island increased by 2 percent. All together stay over tourists spent 3,750,631 nights in Curacao during the year 2013. The North American region decreased by 4 percent during the year 2013 in visitor’s nights. The South American region increased by 8 percent. The Caribbean region decreased by 3 percent during this period. From the European region we registered 2 percent less visitor’s nights.
During the year 2013, 33 percent of the visitors stayed at a local address (street names). 32 percent of the visitors stayed in a large hotel (+150 rooms). 14 percent of the visitors stayed at a bungalow and another 14 percent at a small hotel. 5 percent stayed at a registered apartment accommodation.
