Curacao Increases Security after Airport Shooting
Following a shooting in the arrivals area of the Curacao airport on July 15, the government said it has stepped up security at the airport and in the major tourism sites in Willemstad and elsewhere on the island.
Two local men were killed and six wounded in the shooting. No tourists were reportedly shot, and the government described the shooting as an isolated incident involving rival drug gangs. Curacao reported 22 homicides last year, and 45 in 2012.
