Curacao Airline to Halt Flights to Venezuela

Even though its flights to and from Venezuela are full, it appears that Curacao airline Insel Air will take drastic measures against the South American country. According to the morning newspaper Extra, Insel Air will halt its operations to and from Venezuela.

The reason for this decision is the current political situation in Venezuela and also the millions of dollars Insel Air has trapped in the country. Insel Air will use the aircraft that operates the Curacao-Venezuela route to another one of its destinations.

On numerous occasions Venezuela has promised to make outstanding payments, but up until now Insel Air has seen nothing. However, the number of passengers continues to increase. Insel Air even tried to sell tickets in Curacao to these passengers, but to no avail, because the Venezuelan passengers have to show that they bought the ticket in their country to receive the dollars needed to travel.

Apparently, Insel Air is not the only one that wants to take drastic measures. This is the case with many other international airlines operating to and from Venezuela. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will also discuss the current situation in Venezuela with other airlines so they can take the same measures as Insel Air. This could mean that Venezuela could be left without air transportation from IATA members.

Insel Air still hopes that it will receive its payments from the South American country. If this is not the case, it will implement its decision to stop operations.
