Cuban Hotel Chains Continue Climbing up the World´s Top-100 Ranking

Cuba´s hotel groups Cubanacan and Gran Caribe muscled the way onto the top-100 biggest chains on the face of the earth, according to a report published in Hotels magazine.

The publication -penciled in as the industry´s most prestigious newspaper- ranked Cubanacan S.A. in the 65th spot, while Gran Caribe S.A. is now 82nd on the list. In the 2002 world ranking, both companies were 74th and 87th, respectively.

In addition, Cubanacan and Gran Caribe are second and third among their Latin American peers, bested only by Mexico´s Posada Management Group that finished at number 60.

Another Cuban hotel chain, Gaviota S.A., has climbed up to number 115 and its chances of cracking the top-100 chart are looking good.

The world ranking embraces 300 hotel groups and chains that are labeled on the basis of the quality of their rooms. The chart topper right now is United kingdom´s intercontinental Hotels Groups.

As far as companies operating under management contracts are concerned, France´s Accor Group is fourth on the overall list.

Spain´s Sol Meliá, NH, Barceló, Iberostar, RIU and Occidental Hotels rank 12th, 24th, 30th, 39th, 41st and 46th, respectively.

Maritim (Germany), SuperClubs and Sandals (Jamaica), with major presence on the Caribbean islands, are number 84, 150 and 209, respectively.
