Cuba Seduces Guatemalans with Tourism, Healthcare and Arts

Representatives of Cuban tourism companies and experts from several medicine fields showed off in Guatemala all the potentials the island nation has to offer and the role they play in health tourism.

A group of seven Cuban physicians specialized in oncology, ophthalmology, geriatrics, psychiatry, internal medicine, pediatrics and anesthesiology attended the Third Medical and Tourism Meeting between Cuba and Central America that was sponsored by Guatemala-based DATA Group.

The event was attended by Guatemalan tour operators and healthcare officials who pursue the promotion of Cuba’s smart combination of top-drawer tourism and high-quality medical attention.

“Cuba has made huge contributions to healthcare in Guatemala by posting a team of physicians from the island nation in poverty-stricken rural communities in our country. Yet, we want to take this health-and-tourism experience to the middle class,” said DATA Group owner Mario Oriani.

According to Mr. Oriani, one of the main payoffs this endeavor has ever had is the 400 Guatemalans that have visited Cuba in recent years under the Health Tourism modality.

The event also featured the presentation of Cuban dishes and drinks, exhibitions staged by Cuban chefs and bartenders, and an attractive exhibit and sale of works of art, some of them depicting natural items, religious motifs, Afro-Cuban deities, and paintings donated by Cuban fine artists Victoria Zerquera and Everaldo Morejon.
