Cuba’s tourist workers donate millions of dollars to health care system

Cuban tourist workers in the province of Matanzas have funneled some $4 million into the struggle against cancer since this donation program started out back in 1994.

“This is no doubt a wonderful token of solidarity,” said Lazaro Bacallao Arteaga, secretary-general of the Hotel and Tourism Trade Union in the Matanzas province.

With this purpose in mind, tourism employees in Matanzas have chipped in $315,000 for the purchase of chemical products and other top-priority medications used in soothing people suffering from that terrible disease.
