Cuba’s Culture Ministry Awards the Meliá Varadero Hotel

The Meliá Varadero Hotel, located in Cuba’s second-largest travel destination, became the first on the island nation to receive an award bequeathed by the Ministry of Culture on the basis of sustained efforts in the promotion of Cuban roots both in and out of the country.

Culture Ministry official Lucia Sardiñas presented the award –signed by Cuban Minister Abel Preto and designed by painter Zaida del Rio- to the hotel’s front office.

As part of the celebration, attendants witnessed the presentation of the Meliá-Varadero fragrance, a new scent made by Havana 1791 Perfume Store, that the lodging’s management will give away from now on among honeymooners and boldface names staying at the resort.

Founded on December 14, 1991, the Meliá Varadero Hotel houses a permanent art gallery devoted to Cuban award-winning poetess Carilda Oliver. Guests of all stripes praise the hotel’s efforts to link culture and tourism.

The establishment’s concert halls have staged performances by such top acts as Chucho Valdes, Amaury Perez, and Cuba’s National Ballet Company featuring Alicia Alonso. The gallery showcases the works of fine artists like Manuel, Roberto Fabelo, Nelson Dominguez, Flora Font and many others.
