CTO Calls on Reducing Pollution in the Caribbean

Jean Holder, secretary-general of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), encouraged countries in the region to implement actions aimed at cutting down on pollution levels and developing sustainable tourism.

Mr. Holder said Caribbean states are beginning to see the writing on the wall –dead zones in the sea, the destruction of coral reefs, beach erosion- and to take actions in order to reverse that situation in the near future.

“If we do not manage to stop these damages soon, the next generation will find out the marvelous resources under the Caribbean Sea won’t meet the needs of its peoples,” Mr. Holder warned.

Mr. Holder attended the Sixth Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development recently held in Havana.
