Costa Rica’s Nature Air Wins Preservation Award

Nature Air, the world’s first carbon neutral airline, was awarded the Tourism for Tomorrow Award from the World Travel and Tourism Council for its superior sustainable practices and its commitment to preserving Costa Rica and its resources.

In addition to its 100 percent carbon neutral program, Nature Air has developed the first bio-fueling station in the country and has founded Nature Kids, a social program dedicated to teaching English and environmental studies to children in the local communities.

Nature Air, along with many other companies, are achieving these amazing results through a unique business offering established by the National Financial Fund for Reforestation (FONAFIFO).

With help from the organization’s Certification for Environmental Service program, companies can calculate their annual carbon footprint and offset their impact with carbon credits which are then used to help reforest land in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.

Reforestation projects, such as the one that Nature Air participates in, are not only pivotal to meeting the country’s carbon neutral goal, but, most of all, they are essential to the atmosphere now that rainforests are responsible for 20 percent of the Earth’s oxygen production and the regulation of global climate patterns.
