COPA Airlines to Start Direct Flights between Panama and NYC

Beginning on June 1, Panama´s COPA Airlines will have direct flights between Panama City and New York, a new American destination that joins the likes of Miami, Orlando and Los Angeles, a spokesperson for the company informed.

"We´re deeply pleased to offer a service from the financial capital of Latin America to the financial capital of the world," COPA President Pedro Heilbron informed.

Mr. Heilbron noted business travelers and the Latin population from the U.S. Northeast will appreciate COPA´s hub being in Panama City, where from now on they can connect with 27 other destinations throughout Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

COPA has maintained a strategic alliance with Continental Airlines since a few years ago.

Founded in 1947 in Panama, COPA currently flies to 30 destinations in 20 countries from all around the Americas, and it also provides 120 codeshare flights to destinations elsewhere in the world through Continental Airlines and Mexicana de Aviacion.

As we speak, the air carrier is joining hands with Continental Airlines to negotiate the purchase of Colombia´s slumping AVIANCA Airways.
