Colombia calls off tourist caravans to Venezuela

Organizational problems have forced Colombian authorities to cancel the tourist caravans that were scheduled to hit the road to Venezuela last weekend. Col. Jaime Adolfo Leal, chief of the Colombian Highway Patrol, explained the motorcades were put off until next December due to insufficient time to plan them thoroughly.

Colombian officials had thought up the caravans as a means to boost tourism between the two nations now that schoolchildren are on vacations. The goal behind this effort was to urge Colombian tourists to visit Venezuela and vice versa with a view to raise higher revenues for an industry that’s been down and out in both countries as a result of their respective inner problems.
