Cologne Cathedral Tops Tourist Attractions in Germany
Cologne Cathedral has been rated the most popular landmark in Germany. That is the result of a recent online survey carried out by the German Tourism Association (DTV) and an internet portal for German cities.
As much as 15.2 percent of the 3,000 respondents chose the Gothic cathedral as the answer to the open question: “What is your personal favorite landmark in Germany?” In second place was Neuschwanstein Castle (9.4 percent) and third Dresden’s Frauenkirche Cathedral (6.5 percent).
Last autumn Cologne Cathedral was already presented as the top German tourist attraction in the TV-competition “Our Greatest” advertised in ZDF television, in which the Cologne landmark came out as the clear winner.
Since 1995, the Cologne Cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site, and casts a spell over more than 6 million visitors each year, making the Cologne landmark not only the most popular, but also the most sought-after sightseeing spots in Germany.
