Cuba continues to be one of the Caribbean’s premiere choices for the Spanish tourist market and there are good reasons to believe that. The presence in Cuba of El Corte Ingles Travel’s top-100 salespeople –an incentive program pieced together by Club Amigos and sponsored by Sol Meliá Hotels, Iberia Airlines and Avis car rental- is no doubt a case in point.

This is the second time in a row that Cuba comes in for this bunch of outstanding salespeople. The first trip happened in 2002. “We hope this weeklong stay (from Nov. 23 to 30) is going to be a smash hit,” said Ricardo Palazuelos, manager of El Corte Ingles Travel’s account in Iberia Co., as he touched down in Havana.

Mr. Palazuelos added the reason behind this incentive journey is not only having a way of rewarding these salespeople for a job well done, but also a chance to keep the company’s own staff hipped on what this star-studded travel destination has to offer.

El Corte Ingles Travel’s Club Amigos program –organized by the Sol Meliá Cuba Division, the island nation’s Tourism Ministry and Cubatur Travel Agency- includes grand tours around Old Havana, a nightly show at the Tropicana Cabaret, a trip to Viñales Valley and a chance to watch the traditional Nine O’clock Cannon Shot Ceremony fired from the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress.

In Santiago the Cuba, the group will tour the city, the San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle, the Church of Our Lady of Charity in Cobre, the House of the Troubadour, and the performance of top entertainer Eliades Ochoa at the Santiago Café in the Santiago de Cuba Meliá Hotel.

A swim with dolphins and a stroll down the nearby Bahia de Naranjo Nature Park, coupled with an assortment of tours and a big beachfront party are some of the leisure choices awaiting El Corte Ingles Travel‘s top-100 salespeople in Holguin’s Playa Esmeralda. The group will fly back to Spain from Holguin on Sunday.
