Adventure tour operator Chukka Caribbean Adventures is building a $2.3 million attractions center on a 700-acre site near Falmouth in Jamaica’s Trelawny district, according to local news reports.

The facility will feature canopy tours, river tubing, horseback riding, and carriage tours and capitalize on cruise vacationers from the $224 million Falmouth terminal and port development currently under construction through a joint venture by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) and Royal Caribbean International.
Construction on the attraction, which will open in January, began two months ago and is 30 percent complete, said Alexander Melville, Chukka’s financial and information systems director, in an article in the Jamaica Gleaner.

Melville said Chukka has secured contracts with Royal Caribbean to offer tours for cruise passengers. The Falmouth port is expected to host cruise ship including the industry’s largest, Oasis of the Seas, beginning in January. Melville said Chukka is also negotiating to establish new tour attractions in Barbados and The Cayman Islands.
