Cayo Largo del Sur Goes Strong as Travel Destination

Cayo Largo del Sur, the most important travel circuit in southwestern Cuba, is buttressing as a destination that now averages 1,600 vacationers per day, most of them hailing from Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina and Spain that arrive on the key aboard six direct flights landing at the Vilo Acuña International Airport.
Today, this islet belonging to the Isle of Youth Municipality is boasting an 80 percent occupancy rate, a figure that’s expected to remain on the rise and reach an estimated 1,800 guests per day anytime soon.
The recent opening of the Barceló Beach Resort, run by the same Spanish company the lodging was named after and by Cuba’s Gran Caribe, has now made 1,128 rooms available for this year’s high-peak season.
