Caymans´ Island Air to End Scheduled Service on July 4

Island Air, based in Grand Cayman, will cease its scheduled flights to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman on July 4.

The privately-owned carrier, which opened flights to the two Sister Islands back in 1989, said it could no longer compete with the Twin Otter service offered from Grand Cayman by CAL Express, the commuter arm of Cayman Airways, the national flag carrier.

CAL Express began its service in December 2003, putting it in direct competition with Island Air and marking the first time since 1992 that it had serviced the Sister Islands. CAL Express offers a thoroughfare for passengers connecting to the Sister Islands through Grand Cayman from Cayman Airways.

Island Air, which had offered two daily weekday flights and four a day on weekends aboard eight-passenger Navaho aircraft, will continue offering charter and cargo services between Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands.
