Casa Granda Hotel, Still a Jewel after 90 Years

The Casa Granda Hotel, in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, remains a favorite spot for foreign vacationers, 90 years after its inauguration. Owned by Grupo Gran Caribe and inaugurated in January 1914, the four-star hotel has 58 rooms, a la carte restaurant, bar-terrace and a restaurant-bar in the Roof Garden.

The hotel´s guests mainly come from France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Italy and Spain. During Spanish-colonial times, the building belonged to Don Manuel de Granda, after whom the establishment was named. It was turned into a guesthouse later, until it was built as an elegant hotel.

World renowned personalities have stayed at the Casa Granda Hotel, including Mexican actors Pedro Vargas, Jorge Negrete and Eva Flores, Argentinean singer and actress Libertad Lamarque, and Cuban artists Ernesto Lecuona, Rosita Fornés and Alicia Alonso.
