Caribbean Airlines Limited Tells Guyana Sorry

Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) chairman George Nicholas last week issued an apology to Guyanese passengers who encounter difficulties while in transit in this country after meeting with Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo last Friday.
In a press release issued on Saturday, CAL said Nicholas spoke with members of the media at a press conference held in Guyana subsequent to a meeting between Nicholas and Jagdeo on Friday at State House, Georgetown.
“We apologise for the experience of Guyanese in Trinidad and Tobago and we will address that when we return,” Nicholas said. He said within the next two months, CAL will be offering direct flights between Georgetown, Guyana, and New York, US, three times a week. An aircraft from the CAL fleet is to be named The Spirit of Guyana to show solidarity with the Guyanese people.
Additionally, the chairman added CAL is currently working with the relevant authorities to streamline the transit process in various countries. Nicholas spoke of CAL’s recent ATR purchase and noted that it is key to the airline’s regional service.
“This ATR aircraft purchase will allow us to now consider the introduction of aircraft for regional flights operating from Ogle Airport (at Guyana) when it receives its upgrades status,” Nicholas said. “This development will see us connecting Guyana to Brazil at strategic points.”
Nicholas also said the possibility of reduced airfares is also being examined as the airline moves closer to one regional super airline.
“Caribbean Airlines will have a better rate on direct flights and our intention is to have one Caribbean Airline that services all of the Caribbean destinations,” Nicholas said. “Caribbean Airlines will work with every government, where possible, to bring the price of air travel down.
In attendance at the talks were Guyana Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister of Tourism Manniram Prashad and Minister of Transport Robeson Benn.
