BVI Tourist Board’s School Program Promises to Continue Educating BVI Youth on Tourism in the Community

The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board School Program continues to make great strides in providing students with a greater appreciation for the natural, cultural and historical attractions of the British Virgin Islands and the importance of preserving them for future generations.

Sensitizing and educating students on how the tourism industry works and its importance to the BVI’s economy and advising students on the wide range of lucrative and exciting career opportunities that exist in the tourism sector.

During the Advent term of the 2008-2009 school year, the Day-as-a-Tourist program continued with island tours in which students were given the opportunity to see and have first-hand experiences as tourists.

Students also learned more about the BVI Tourism Product including the services, facilities and activities that are available for tourists to enjoy. Participating schools included the Leonora Delville Primary and Cedar International Primary.

As the program’s focus is mainly educational, at the end of each island tour, students are given written quizzes on what they have learnt. All schools can participate in the Day-as-a-Tourist Program once they have received one of the BVI Tourist Board’s school tourism presentations.

The Board of Directors of the BVI Tourist Board extends special appreciation to all school principals and teachers, tourism industry partners, tour operators, delis, restaurants and supermarkets for consistent and outstanding participation and support of the program thus far.
