Bulgarian Capital’s Sofia Airport to Receive New Categorization

Sofia Airport will receive a higher category by the end of September 2007, Transport and Communications Minister Petar Moutavchiev said, during the presentation of his report on the Ministry’s work in his second year in power.

The new categorization will allow airplanes to land at the airport even in foggy weather. Heavy Fog forced Sofia Airport to close several times in the spring 2007

According to Moutafchiev, the categorization of the airport will be possible only after Sofia municipality resolves a problem with a road passing near the landing-strip.

The road should be closed, as traffic on it can cause interference at the airport, according to Moutafchiev.
