Brazil Takes Heat over Official Reference to Sex Tourism

Brazilian organizations that fight sex tourism upbraided the country´s Labor Ministry following a piece of information posted on a website that advocates for prostitutes as simple “tourists´ companions,” local newspaper O Globo reported this week.

The reference, posted on the Brazilian Labor Ministry´s official site has rubbed anti-sex tourism activists the wrong way in and out of the South American nation.

Even though prostitution is not allowed in the country, Brazil´s Labor Ministry defines the world´s oldest trade as an activity that gives hookers the possibility of making official healthcare ad campaigns and great contributions to social security reports in an effort to have access to pensions in the future.

That classification, made by the Brazilian Labor Ministry since 2002, labels prostitutes as sex professionals and customers´ companions.
