Book of Chronicles on Santiago de Cuba in the Works
Pablo de la Torriente publishing house, managed by Cuba’s Journalists League, is working to launch a book with chronicles on Santiago de Cuba as a special gift for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of this village, back on July 25, 1515, which later became the second most important city on the island nation.

According to Enna Oliva, representative of the above-mentioned publishing house from the easternmost region of the country, the text will put together chronicles authored by over ten Santiago-based journalists, as well as pictures and notes on words expressed by figures that were inspired by the many attributes of the city and showed their feelings for it.
Among those national and internationally acclaimed boldface names, we can mention José Martí, Fidel Castro, Vilma Espín, García Lorca, Waldo Leyva, Manuel Navarro Luna, among other. The book, with around 200 pages, is going to be launched in July 2015, entitled Chronicles on Santiago de Cuba, and it is aimed at summarizing, by means of the implicit lyricism in the genre, the history, culture and charm of Santiago and its people.
During the first half of the 20th century, Emilio Bacardí Moreau, the first mayor of the city, published 10 volumes of his Chronicles on Santiago de Cuba, with details on the foundation of the village, its subsequent development and passages on local customs. So this proposal by Pablo de la Torriente publishing house stands as a second opportunity to review the transcendence of the only territory in the country that treasures the honorific title of Hero City of the Republic of Cuba.
