Bonaire Resort Halts Sale of Bottled Water
Captain Don’s Habitat, a dive resort on Bonaire that advocates environmental conservation, launched an eco-project designed to decrease the amount of plastic
debris entering the island’s landfill.
All guests checking into the resort receive a water bottle and instructions on how to use Bonaire’s desalinated tap water instead of buying commercially bottled water.
Habitat and its adjacent Rum Runners restaurant no longer will sell bottled water, according to Jack Chalk, general manager.
The sport bottles have a wide mouth so that ice can be added and are free of the
BPA (Bisphenol A) compound. The resort installed its own waste water treatment system several years ago and plans additional environmental projects.
