Bonaire Becomes Latest Recipient of the Islands Magazine/CTO Award

The Island of Bonaire has long been a favorite location of diving, snorkeling and environmental enthusiasts because of the pristine coral reef environment protected by the Bonaire National Marine Park. Recently, Bonaire received the prestigious Islands Magazine/Caribbean Tourism Organizations 2008 Sustainable Tourism Award.

“Those of us that live and work on the island have always recognized that our home is a special one,” comments Oscar Haack, Club Manager of the Harbor Village Beach Club. “Every islander is so gratified by this important honor and I am thrilled that the Island’s commitment to preserving and protecting the environment has been recognized.”

The award was presented during an awards luncheon at the 10th Annual Sustainable Tourism Conference in Turks and Caicos.

Bonaire was awarded the honor in recognition of their longstanding commitment and leadership role in marine conservation in addition to the proactive measures taken to protect the precious marine environment.
