Blue Tulum Resort & Spa Names Luis Fortanell Director of Management, Sales & Marketing
Blue Tulum Resort & Spa, the Riviera Maya’s premier five-star all-inclusive resort, has named Luis Fortanell director of management, sales and marketing. In this capacity, Fortanell oversees all aspects of the on-property guest experience at Blue Tulum, as well as external promotional efforts.
An accomplished hospitality industry professional, Fortanell carries more than 20 years of experience with some of the biggest names in the business, including Crowne Plaza, Fiesta Americana, Sheraton, Sol Meliá, and Westin. Immediately prior to joining the Blue Tulum team, Fortanell served as director of development and operations for Hotusa Hotels where he oversaw the company’s portfolio of 17 properties throughout Latin America.
He got his start in the hospitality industry working at Sheraton Hotels in Mexico City and Sydney, Australia before joining Fiesta Americana Hotels & Resorts where he spent a good portion of his career (1983-1991).
Fortanell’s eight years with Fiesta Americana were followed by eight years with Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts. Starting out as director of sales for the Meliá Turquesa in Cancun, Fortanell ascended rapidly to progressively senior sales and marketing positions, including director of sales and marketing for Latin America based at the company’s corporate offices in Miami.
Notably, Fortanell led the team that opened the first Sol Meliá sales office in Buenos Aires in 1994, and held executive sales and marketing positions at Sol Meliá properties in Puerto Vallarta, Palma de Majorca, Tenerife, Bali, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela and Peru.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Fortanell attended the University del Valle de Mexico and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Holiday Inn University, Memphis, TN.
