Bird Classification Labeling in Santiago de Cuba

Cuban biologist Freddy Rodriguez regarded here the new bird labeling system -with components having a Cuban brand- as a novelty in this kind of task in the island.

Rodriguez, an expert who was four years ago a founder of the Johan Cristoph Gundiach Station, a Cuban entity that develops this scientific work permanently, told Prensa Latina that with this technique, the national data base on birds can be noticeably improved.

Before this, a good part of the information in this geographical zone was saved in foreign institutions, mainly from the US and Canada.

The Cuban expert talked about the relevance of such registrations or records, which allow investigators to know more about what has happened with the bird populations, in a wide range, which includes migration and other aspects.

The specialist said that the data successfully tested verifies a foldering system done by Cubans with the experience provided by other European and North American countries and the prospect of being expanded and used by other researchers in the nation.

Joined to the Court House-Siboney Reserve inserted in the Caribbean Biological Corridor, which also includes Dominican Republic and Haiti, the station performs that action for three days each month and has highly qualified and trained personnel.
