The Bimini Superfast ferry linking Miami and Bimini, Bahamas, has been given the thumbs-up by the U.S. Coast Guard to start operations, following a two-week drydock in Miami due to safety deficiencies.

Inspectors had determined that infractions needed to be corrected before the 1,600-passenger vessel was cleared for commercial sailing.

The 32,000-ton vessel now has passed its inspection of navigational, lifesaving and firefighting equipment and crew proficiency with emergency procedures.

The ferry, offered by the new Resorts World Bimini Bay Casino, is expected to set sail on July 20 from Miami to Bimini, a trip of two-and-a-half hours. Two roundtrips a day will be offered, with rates starting at $50 per passenger.
