The Crane Resort & Residences on the southeast coast of Barbados will unveil its Crane Village in mid-February.

Facilities include the Village Town Hall, a duty-free shopping center, a conference facility for up to 100 guests, a theater and a gym/spa overlooking the beach and cliff-side pools.

“The opening is a significant moment in the Crane’s 121-year history,” said Paul Doyle, owner. “Guests will have an expanded roster of entertainment, dining and shopping options.”

Architectural features of the Crane Village include cobblestone streets, gable roofs, wooden shutters, ornate fretwork, lime stonewalls and verandas.

The Crane, the oldest resort on Barbados, is nearing completion of a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion that includes two pergolas flanking the property’s entrance, two new flood-lit tennis courts and a beach elevator as an alternative to the 99 steps descending to Crane Beach.

The resort will add garden residence suites before the end of 2009, bringing its total room inventory to 220.
