Aruban Resort Praises Tourism Training Program

To expand knowledge of Aruba's history, culture, customs and sustainability programs for those employed in the country's tourism industry, the Aruba Tourism Authority in 2011 launched a certification program called “Mi Compromiso cu Aruba” (My Commitment with Aruba).

It's since been embraced by a number of hotels, vendors and tourist attractions, including Bucuti & Tara Beach Resorts. More than half of the employees and management staff at the adults-only property have been certified in the program.

“Our employees are one of our greatest assets because of the knowledge and level of service they are able to provide our guests,” said Edward Biemans, owner and managing director of Bucuti & Tara.

“We believe in the importance of this program and are confident that it will lead to excellent service in the tourism industry across the island,” he said.

The resort has held three training sessions thus far, and Biemans said the sessions would continue until all of the staff is certified.

The program not only focuses on Aruba’s landmarks but also explores important chapters in Aruba’s history.

It includes an examination of Aruba’s natural resources, culture and attractions and gives tips on how to deliver higher levels of service. The curriculum includes the importance of a positive attitude when dealing with island visitors and guests. A mandatory island tour rounds out the program.
