Aruba Airport Authority Implements Heavy Maintenance, Expansion Projects

The Aruba Airport Authority has announced the implementation of its first one of many airside heavy maintenance and expansion projects for this and the coming four years.

Five years from now, some 60 million florins will be invested in upgrading the runway and taxiways of the Queen Beatrix International Airport.

Turning bay 29 has been expanded over the last three months to enable large aircraft to turn 180 degrees before heading back to the terminal’s western direction.

In 2007, some 14 million florins will be invested in airside maintenance and the construction of so-called Runway End Safety Areas at both sides of the runway, an ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) requirement.

The 2007 project will include a new approach lighting system at both sides of the runway.
