Argentine Airlines to Resume Flights to Colombia; Air Madrid, Air Canada to Get Started

Argentine Airlines (AA), that had stopped flying to Colombia some five years ago, will resume flights to that country early this week. Air Madrid and Air Canada will get their big break soon.

AA will cover the stretch between Buenos Aires and Bogota with four weekly flights. Prior to that move, the route had seen the number of passengers accrue by 43 percent in 2003.

On the other hand, newcomer Air Madrid will get cracking this week with the Madrid-Bogota-Cartagena-Madrid route as part of a commercial aviation agreement signed between Colombia and Spain. Regular flights will continue to be operated by Spain-based carrier Iberia and Colombian airline Avianca.

In addition, Air Canada –scheduled to make its debut nonstop flight from Toronto to Bogota also this week- requested three weekly flights and a regular route, even though it will begin operations under a special license for charter flights.

Colombia and Canada expect to cut a definite deal on commercial aviation later this week in Ottawa with a view to put regular flights between the two nations.
