Anti-Smoking Law Takes Effect in Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands on Jan. 1 banned smoking inside all public places, including bars, restaurants, stores and bus terminals. Smokers are allowed to light up only in open outdoor spaces that are at least 10 feet from nonsmoking areas.

In the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic and Grenada already have smoking bans. In Trinidad and Tobago, a nonsmoking law awaits the prime minister’s signature before it takes effect.

Jamaica permits smoking everywhere. In the Bahamas, smoking is banned inside government buildings. Most resorts and hotels throughout the Caribbean do not allow smoking in guestrooms and enclosed restaurants.
