American Airlines went up, up and away in December

American Airlines scored a 73.7 percent increase in the number of operations in December, 6.1 percentage points more than the 67.2 percent it chalked up back in the same month of 2001, company sources said.

This same index as far as domestic routes are concerned was up to 72.4 percent after a bleak 66.8 the year before, while operations in international lines rose to 75.55 percent against an equally meager 68.4 percent back in December 2001.

Furthermore, the airline’s international flight traffic last December was up by 17.2 percent compared to the same period of time in 2001, yet it remained 7.9 percent below the figure registered in December 2000. The number of flown seats in those flights was 6.1 percent higher than in December 2001, yet 15.1 percent lower than in the year 2000.

On the other hand, the domestic route traffic in December 2002 grew 12.8 percent over 2001, though it stayed 4.8 percent lower than in the same month of 2000. Flight capacity was up 4 percent in 2002 compared to the year before, but this index also remained 9.9 percent below the numbers posted in 2000.
