Air Jamaica to Remain Separate Brand under Caribbean Airlines
Air Jamaica will continue as a separate brand under Caribbean Airlines’ ownership, and will feature new livery and a revamped fleet, said William Rodgers, Air Jamaica’s senior director of government and community affairs.
Air Jamaica will continue to serve leisure and tourism markets, resuming service from Montego Bay to Baltimore, Miami and Orlando. The routes, which were eliminated during the past two years, will operate with recently ordered 737s aircraft. Rodgers said the launch of service and frequency will be established by the end of the year in a “phased-in” manner.
Meanwhile Caribbean Airlines will focus primarily on commercial traffic and emerging destinations of South America and Latin America, Rodgers said. Air Jamaica also plans to resume thrice-weekly service to London’s Heathrow Airport, although the launch date has yet to be determined.
The carrier will also resume twice-daily service from Montego Bay to Toronto later this year. Finally, company officials will seek to align Air Jamaica with regional carriers including LIAT to establish a “conglomerate” offering improved Caribbean-region service by the end of 2011.
