Air Jamaica Axes Baltimore Service

Air Jamaica will suspend daily service between Baltimore and Montego Bay on July 1, and will allocate that aircraft to “more profitable routes,” according to CEO Bruce Nobles.

The summer schedule for the carrier, recently divested by the Jamaican government to Caribbean Airlines, calls for 182 weekly flights between Jamaica and the U.S., Canada and Nassau, effective July 1.

“In developing the new schedule, we placed a lot of emphasis on making flight times convenient, and we are sure this will prove a big win with our customers,” Nobles said.

The schedule offers five daily flights to New York (two from Montego Bay and three from Kingston), four daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, two daily flights to Toronto and a daily flight to Philadelphia.

Nassau service will be reintroduced; Air Jamaica had cut its Nassau service on April 12. On the same day, Western Air, a privately-owned airline based on Andros Island, launched a daily flight between Nassau and Kingston. Western Air flights between Nassau and Montego Bay were launched in May.
