Air Canada gets green light to use regular flights to Cuba

The Canadian government okayed local airline Air Canada to use its regular international flights to connect Cuba and Canada, thanks in part to an agreement on air transportation signed between the two nations that foresees the appointment of a couple of aviation companies, one from each country, to get this job done.

This new income source will help the Canadian air carrier, currently bogged down in economic hardship that prompted its front office to file for Chapter Eleven. In the case of Cuba, Cubana de Aviacion is the sole airline assigned within the framework of this accord.

Air Canada is the North American nation’s second-largest carrier authorized to fly to Cuba. Charter flight operator Air Transat is already offering regular connections between the two countries.

The airline will provide several timetables with flights coming from Calgary, Halifax, London (Ontario), Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. The destinations will be Havana, Varadero, Holguin and a fourth city to be announced soon.
