Acapulco to Open New Cultural Center in September
The House of Winds, the home of Dolores Olmedo, friend of the esteemed muralist Diego Rivera, is opening as a cultural center in Acapulco. The mansion overlooks Le Quebrada, the cliff-diving area, will open in September. It houses six of Rivera’s murals.
In November, House of Winds will feature a Frida Kahlo exhibit. In addition to art exhibitions, the space will be used for such special events as films, theater and dance, special art exhibits and much more.
“We are proud to announce the highly anticipated opening of the House of Winds to the public,” said Angel Aguirre Rivero, governor of the state of Guerrero. “This new cultural center is one of many efforts being made in Acapulco’s Traditional Zone and aims to promote the destination's cultural offerings that will benefit both locals and travelers alike.” The National Council of Culture and Arts and the Carlos Slim Foundation purchased the House of Winds for the purpose of promoting Acapulco’s cultural offerings.
