Acapulco Continues to Recover from Effects of Two Major Storms
Acapulco is continuing its recovering efforts from the simultaneous hit it took from Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid. All hotels are open and functioning normally, said Javier Aluni, secretary of tourism of the state of Guerrero, where the city is located.
Mexico’s federal and state governments are paying hotel expenses for those visitors who remain in Acapulco because of closed roads. At press time, the road to Mexico City was expected to be open. Passengers are still being transported directly to the airport tarmac since the terminal is not expected to be fully operational until sometime later this week.
Pie de la Cuesta Air Force Base also is still being used for travelers in need of medical attention, women, children and the elderly. Aluni said Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco are fully operational. The Siglo XXI Highway and the road between Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Acapulco are currently undergoing repairs.
